When we came out to inspect the home, the homeowners were trying to keep cool with only one window air conditioner and a series of fans to circulate the air. While this was cheaper than having several window air conditioners going at the same time, the system couldn’t keep up and did nothing about addressing humidity. The homeowners were tired of having that sticky feeling on every chair and tabletop, but they also were looking to keep their energy bills under control.

We knew right away that a Carrier ductless heating and cooling system would work like a charm. Carrier Ductless systems work without ductwork, and use a heat pump to provide both heating and cooling comfort on-demand, throughout the area where they are installed. The systems consist of two major components- an outdoor condenser unit that can power up to nine individual indoor units. Each wall-mounted indoor unit can be controlled independently, creating a separate zone of heating and cooling wherever it’s located.

The wall units are mounted up on a wall, out of the way, where their state of the art sensors can monitor the temperature and humidity in a room. Then using inverter technology, the units use just the minimal amount of energy necessary to provide cool (or heated) air and distribute it around the room, preventing hot and cold spots you get with traditional heating systems.

For this home, we created four separate zones of comfort in the living room, dining room, master bedroom, and lower level. This means that when someone is in the living room, they can adjust the comfort level to their preference, without affecting the temperature in the master bedroom or lower level. It also means that if no one is in the master bedroom, the homeowner can turn the unit off or put it into power-saving mode, to avoid spending energy keeping a room cool when no one is there!

Creating separate zones means the homeowners will not only have the comfort they want where they want it, but they won’t be wasting money by heating or cooling rooms when they’re not in use- and those energy savings alone can be substantial. The US Government Energystar program states ductless systems can reduce cooling costs by up to 30% over conventional air conditioners, and use up to 60% less energy than standard electric heating systems.

By adding four zones of Carrier ductless heating and cooling to their home, these Nottingham homeowners will end up getting greater comfort while saving money year-round. In the summer, they’ll be able to enjoy the quiet comfort of ductless cooling in the bedroom- it operates at only 29 db- whisper quiet! Then in the winter, at the touch of a button, they’ll be able to get that touch of heat they want to make sure their toes never have to hit a cold floor again. On frosty Fall mornings, they’ll be able to add that touch of heat to the dining room when enjoying their morning coffee and add a touch of heat while watching TV in the living room, without having to turn on the heat for the whole house. Likewise, they can add a touch of heat or coolness, at a touch of a button, whenever needed, and will have all the comfort they want.

We know our homeowners in Little Britain will be happy with the outcome they’ve gotten already from adding four zones of comfort throughout their Nottingham home. If you have a home with hot and cold spots, or simply needs a better and more permanent comfort solution than window air conditioners can provide, give us a call here at Oxford Plumbing and Heating.
